Welcome!!!

Hi everyone!

Welcome to EFC East Valley's HS blog. We are glad that you have found our site. We will try to update this as much as possible to update you on the happenings of our HS fellowship. Anyway, here is our mission statement for our group:

EV High School Fellowship exists to build a strong community of believers who are growing in their faith through the teaching of Scripture to equip and train them to reach out to their friends and community around them who do not yet have a relationship with Jesus and glorify God in all that they are.

Our key verse comes from Matthew 22:36-40: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? "Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hand on these two commandments."

We hope that you will continue to drop by our blog and come join us on Fridays and Sundays!

truth

this past sunday, pastor ted preached about "how to face evil & suffering." first, we saw some of the arguments atheist say. God can't be all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-good at the same time. but what we learned is this. love requires freedom to choose. freedom requires ability to choose evil. and evil without suffering is unjust. the fallacy is that suffering is always bad. the real question we need to ask is: "how can God bless sinful people?"

so, in order to face evil and suffering, we must:
1. know the fruit of suffering
2. be comforted that God suffers with us
3. rejoice in living hope
4. treasure the Good News

this lesson also reminded me of a song be lecrae called "truth." here, he raps and defends the gospel at the same time. check it out! it's pretty good stuff :)

discovering God's will (part 2)

in our HS CE this past sunday, we went through part 2 of "discovering God's will" by Andy Stanley. we want to remind you that the foundation of knowing what God wants us to do is grounded in knowing who God is and knowing His truth found in the bible.

Here are the notes from our lesson:

  1. The problem with knowing God’s will is not God’s unwillingness to speak; the problem is our unwillingness to follow through.
  2. God does not give us direction for consideration.
  3. God gives direction for participation.
  4. Surrender to the known will of God paves the way to discovery of the unknown will of God.
  5. Broken people have a very east time discerning God’s will.
  6. God is more interested in your discovering Him that His will.
  7. Your prayer life is at an all-time high when you’re making a decision.
  8. In the process of trying to know His will, we get to know Him.
  9. God created communication. That makes Him the greatest communicator.
  10. God wants you to know His will even more than you want to know it.

the goal of this lesson is to create a clear distinction between desiring to follow God's will and desiring to benefit from His wisdom. God doesn't give advice; He gives direction. But He only gives it to hearts that are first surrendered to His lordship. If you're looking for opinions, ask your friends. If you're looking to give God control of your life, you're essentially guaranteed to find out His will in the process.

G.O.S.P.E.L

what do we believe in? we believe in the gospel. that God saved us from our sins, paying the price for everyone and giving us life. hear it. believe it. live it.

discovering God's will (part 1)

have you ever wondered what God's will is for your life? well, we have just started a new dvd sermon series called "discovering God's will" by andy stanley. if you miss out our first lesson, here are the notes:
  1. Life is the sum total of the decisions we make.
  2. Most people have some regrets about the decisions they’ve made.
  3. Your Heavenly Father wants to direct our lives.
  4. Christians often give contrary advice.
  5. What you do with your life is of utmost importance to God.
  6. The Bible talks about the providential, moral, and personal will of God.
  7. The providential will of God refers to the those things God is going to do, regardless.
  8. God uses men and women to accomplish His providential will.
  9. The moral will of God refers to the dos and don’ts God has commanded.
  10. The personal will of God refers to personal decisions and plans for our lives.
  11. The more familiar you are with the providential will of God, and the more surrendered you are to the moral will of God, the easier it will be to discover the personal will of God for your life.
  12. God’s providential will and God’s moral will determine the plumb line for everything else God is going to call and ask you to do.
this is an exciting new series and we hope that you will come out and join us on both fridays and sundays!
